The fall meeting of the Botanical Assessment Working Group (BAWG) was recently held on October 30, 2014, and resulted in a number of plant S-rank changes (see below for a summary).
Of note is the reassessment of Small Lupine (Lupinus pusillus ssp. pusillus). In May 2014, this taxon was removed from the tracking list in advance of a formal rank reassessment, as the members of BAWG felt that it no longer needed to be tracked. This move proved to be premature, however, as the formal reassessment which took place on October 30, 2014 resulted in a rank of S3, confirming that the taxon does indeed need to remain on the tracking list. Despite appearing to be frequent within parts of its range, Small Lupine has a restricted range and a high threat level, resulting in the S3 rank. From Oct. 30, 2014, it will be considered a tracked species and appropriate restrictions will again be necessary as for all other tracked taxa.
